The Blue Castle
This is by the same author who wrote Anne of Green Gables and it is just as enjoyable. It is fairly short and the every day life feel to it is relatable. The romance is a little unorthodox, but very beautiful. It had a few twists at the end. The main character is very endearing and her position is understandable.
The Ordinary Princess
I just read this book recently and it was adorable. It is geared towards youth, but I enjoyed the cute romance and the sweet story. Quick, romantic, and easy. Fun for any dull moment in life.
Mara Daughter of the Nile by Eloise Jarvis McGraw
This is one of my very favorite suspense/romance books. There's a lot of Egyptian history and the author really gives you the feel of the time period.
The characters are so beautifully done and the storyline is realistic. I like having at least one GOOD character to rely on throughout a book. This has one.
I first read this when I was probably twelve, but it still keeps my attention.
If you want something to pull you along and yet be easy enough to read at bedtime, I recommend this. :)
The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
AMAZING. Thick book but worth every second. The characters are deep and each viewpoint is so clear and easy to empathize with. The ending is unexpected and truly a learning experience. He fills the book with real life moral questions and ends with some great answers to those questions, but leaves enough unanswered to keep you thinking.
I love how he encourages scholarship in this book. It gets me excited to learn.
The war scenes are pretty graphic, as well as the scenes involving the surgeon. But there's no bad language to speak of (he comes up with his own curse words that don't bother me in the least) and nothing immoral.
MUST READ.
Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
By the end of the book I was so glad I had read it. Part way through I was considering putting it down. The content is definitely mature and sometimes hard to get through. But it's worth the time and energy to get a good perspective change on life.
Wouldn't necessarily recommend for anyone under 14.
